Art in the canteen on campus

The campus of the Saarland University Medical Center in Homburg is dominated by art: on Friday, May 9, the 31st edition of “Art in the Canteen” begins. The exhibition will open in the canteen building (Building 74) at 7 pm. The show was initiated in the winter semester 2000/2001 by the former head of the Prosecture, Dr. Kurt Becker, and students of the Faculty of Medicine. On display are works by artists who study or work on the Homburg campus in their everyday lives. Admission is free.

The exhibition runs until May 30 and can be visited during Mensa opening hours, Monday to Friday from 11 am to 2:30 pm.

DEPOSIT -TASTIC! New reusable deposit system at the Studierendenwerk

Since the introduction of the RELEVO deposit system in 2021, over 420,000 items of disposable packaging have already been saved. With our own STW deposit system, we want to build on this success and work with you to establish an even more efficient, sustainable system.

Studierendenwerk Saarland achieves gold status as a bicycle-friendly employer

Studierendenwerk Saarland has reached a remarkable milestone in terms of sustainability and employee development. It was the first company in Saarland to be awarded gold status as a “bicycle-friendly employer” by the ADFC. The Studierendenwerk’s extraordinary commitment to a bicycle-friendly working environment was particularly recognized. In recent years, Studierendenwerk Saarland has taken numerous innovative measures to promote cycling among its employees. These include the introduction of a bicycle leasing program, which enables employees to purchase high-quality bicycles at attractive conditions. In addition, it has been observed that more and more employees are choosing to cycle to work. One particularly creative initiative is the leisure tips on social media or on the company intranet, where employees share their cycling routes and destinations with colleagues. Mobility Minister Petra Berg added: “The gold award for Studierendenwerk Saarland is an important signal for a joint Saarland mobility turnaround. It shows that sustainable mobility in everyday working life is not only possible, but can also be implemented extremely successfully and practicably. We hope that this example will find many imitators and, as a ministry, we are available to provide financial support and advice with our funding guidelines

Social Minister of the Saarland as a guest

Minister of Social Affairs Dr. Magnus Jung visits Studierendenwerk Saarland

Dr. Magnus Jung, Saarland’s Minister of Labour, Social Affairs, Women and Health, paid a visit to the Saarland Student Union. The Minister personally handed over the grant notification for €1,561,000 for the current year, which ensures financial support for student education.

The visit focused on the further development of educational support. Dr. Jung took the time to discuss improvements to BAföG with the experts from the Studierendenwerk. In particular, they discussed ways of speeding up and simplifying the BAföG process through digitalization and reducing bureaucracy.

One concrete result of the meeting is the definition of a timetable for the development of a future roadmap by the Ministry and the Studierendenwerk. This should contain a clear strategy for the modernization of education funding and thus pave the way for a more efficient and user-friendly BAföG system.

Studierendenwerk Saarland remains committed to making student finance as uncomplicated and accessible as possible for all students.

What are the benefits of the KlimaTeller?

The KlimaTeller is an integral part of our menu: climate-friendly dishes are labeled as such if they produce at least 50% less CO2 than the average of all dishes. Why do you decide for or against the KlimaTeller when choosing your food? Take part in a short survey about this:

MEET and eat

Meet & Eat: International Lunch – Every lunchtime in the Mensa Saarbrücken.

For all those who don’t like to eat alone, want to meet other students and exchange ideas. The Studierendenwerk, ESN and International Office offer the “MEET and eat” meeting point in the Saarbrücken canteen every lunchtime (Mondays – Fridays) in an informal atmosphere. Tables are reserved with the MEET and eat logo (window side of staircase A, near the clearing line).

Focus on exam anxiety and self-care

At the beginning of each semester, the Psychological-Psychotherapeutic Counseling Center (PPB) offers groups on various topics that students are often confronted with. Group offers provide the opportunity to tackle issues that can lead to blockages or difficulties in your studies together with others who are affected. In WS 24/25 there are group offers on the topics of exam anxiety and self-care. You can find out more here.

No semester without specialty days

For this year’s winter semester 24/25, there will once again be the popular Specialty Days on Wednesdays in the Mensa Campus SB. Students from all over the world will present their home country in the canteen and the canteen team will cook an exciting dish from the country presented. It traditionally starts with Saarland and Hoorische with sauerkraut and bacon cream sauce
