BREVIT: Breathing Behaviour and Non-Lexical Vocalisations in Talk-in-Interaction

The BREVIT project investigates the fine details of human interaction, focusing on breathing behaviour and non-lexical vocalisations in conversations, across English, German, and French. The project uses multimodal data, including synchronised audio, video, and respiration data (for further information: sites.google.com/york.ac.uk/brevit/home)

Tasks & Responsibilities

The primary tasks involve data processing, synchronisation, and manual corrections of automatic segmentations and alignments.

      File synchronisation: Synchronising various types of data (video, audio, and respiration signals) with temporal precision and generating necessary file formats.

      Data processing: Running automatic segmentation and alignment workflows in WebMAUS. Preparing data accordingly by means of rough manual alignment.

      Manual correction: Reviewing and manually correcting output files following WebMAUS annotation to ensure high-quality data for analysis.

Requirements & Qualifications

      Languages: Professional command of English (team communication language); basic working knowledge of German and French (languages present in the corpus).

      Technical skills:

      Prior experience with Praat is required as well as a solid background and interest in phonetics. Bonus: knowledge of ELAN or DaVinci Resolve (can otherwise be learned on the job).

      A basic understanding of common audio and video formats, and their characteristics (sampling rate, resolution, etc.)

      Soft skills: Strong attention to detail, careful and responsible data handling.
