The Bee-Project
In autumn 2018, the “Campus Honey” project was a joint initiative of the university, in particular the bioscientist Dr. Susanne Meuser (ZHMB) and the Studentenwerk im Saarland e.V. as well as the AStA under the patronage of the university president. The project represents an interface between the university, the students and the non-university environment. It is a practically implemented symbol for sustainability in culture, cultural landscape and agriculture, for environmental awareness and for further education independent of age and previous education. The bee houses are located in the former botanical garden. Since 2019, a bee training course has been held from April to September, where students and anyone else interested can learn how to handle bees. The honey produced by the campus bees is sold at the Studentenwerk while stocks last.
